Everything is Negotiable: Ned Montenecourt’s Money Tales Podcast Appearance

Talking about money with your family is usually about as fun as going to the dentist. In other words, it’s pretty uncomfortable. No one wants to walk on eggshells by discussing inheritances, spending habits, and bank accounts.

But that doesn’t mean that you should skip these conversations.

While speaking with Aspiriant’s Money Tales podcast, Legacy Foundry’s own Ned Montenecourt revealed why it’s so important to actually discuss money with those close to you. The conversation started at the beginning, with Ned walking Sandi Brager and Cammie Doder through his own personal finance evolution.

The Power of Communication

Spoiler alert: Ned’s family wasn’t always the most open about uncomfortable issues. This ended up causing some pretty major issues between loved ones. Some of the Montenecourt family relationships are still damaged to this day.

Could this have all been solved by having simple, honest conversations about money?

Ned learned a lot from his family’s fallout. It was largely due to a lack of financial openness and planning, and he works hard to ensure that he doesn’t make those same mistakes. He shares his financial philosophy – “everything is negotiable” – with his kids whenever possible.

Of course, that’s only scratching the surface of Ned’s wisdom. To hear more, you can listen to his episode of Money Tales. It jumps from Moscow, Russia to Russian Hill, San Francisco as it traces the economic outline of Ned’s life and career.

The moral of the story: talking about money with your family might be uncomfortable, but it is critical.
